I am a working professional photographer and videographer with over 20 years of real-world experience in commercial, editorial, corporate and wedding and event photography. I have another website that focuses on my commercial and corporate photography.
I've always had an interest in photography and film. I can remember reaching for my mom's cameras everytime she pulled them out. There was something magical about seeing images come alive on film. You can see some of my first photos down below.
I was born and raised in Santa Barbara County on the Central Coast and made the move to San Diego to attend San Diego State University, where I graduated with a degree in photojournalism and film. I miss the Central Coast and will photograph a wedding up there any chance I get. So please don't hesitate to inquire with me if you're having a wine country wedding in the Santa Maria area. It gives me a good reason to extend my weekend and visit family and friends up there too.
My first taste of professional photography came while interning for a commercial photo studio. It was an incredible experience to be on a photo set and see how advertising and fashion photos were made. I loved it. My original photography plans were to shoot images for CD covers, magazines, ad agencies. But instead, photographing weddings just kind of happened by accident and I really liked it.
I started photographing weddings when film was the only option. There was no digital photography at this time, so photography was still kinda magical and mysterious to me and wedding photographers really had to know what they were doing back then or they could screw up somebodies wedding. There was no looking at the back of the camera to check your lighting or to make sure you got the shot correctly. This is why I was a little hesitant photographing weddings at first. But my confidence grew one wedding after another.
I shoot all digital now but I am still willing to shoot film if you're a true purist and just really likes the look of film photography. I actually love the look of film. It's gorgeous especaially for available light photography. Black and white film photography is also super cool. It just has that look that takes you back in time.
